Duwamish Valley Community Assembly

DVCA (Duwamish Valley Community Assembly) is a leaderless community assembly where community members discuss issues in their area and how the community can solve those issues themselves. The DVCA is not a representative of the community. It is the community representing itself. The DVCA is NOT a non-profit. It is 100% community run, funded, and operated. DRAG is not the DVCA. The community is the DVCA. DRAG is only helping to facilitate the first meeting and others if needed. From there the assembly will be self perpetuated by the people of the Duwamish Valley.

DVCA Mission

A more detailed mission will (might) be laid out once the assembly comes together to form the mission. What is laid below is the general mission for starting the DVCA.

The DVCA has formed in an effort to build community power through directly democratic organizing. For the people of the community to realize the power they have to solve the issues they are faced with in the Duwamish Valley. To form an alternative to relying on “leaders” to do it for us. Those who call themselves our “leaders” are not faced with the issues we are. As such they cannot possibly understand our needs and how those needs should be met. Only the people with those needs know how to do that. Together we can meet each other's needs. Not only is it possible, it is necessary. We have been misrepresented, underrepresented, or not represented at all for far too long! It is through the coming together of the community that will get us the representation we need. Our own representation.

DVCA is not only a space to make collective decisions, it is also a space for healing from the traumas and conditioning a system of hierarchy and violence has inflicted on us both mentally and physically. If we desire a better world, transformation must occur in ourselves, others, and collectively. By creating a space where all voices are heard and included, and where we can be radically transparent, honest, caring, and accountable we create that transformation here and now.

Assembly Structure

DVCA is structured through a democratic consensus decision making process where all voices are heard, and combined to come to a common agreement that works in the benefit of all who are present. This is a consent based process not coercive. No one is told what they should do or think as long as what they are doing is not causing harm.

Our meeting structure follows that of the CAC (Cooperative Assembly of Cascadia) For a more detailed document laying out the entire meeting structure follow this link.

We also follow the conflict resolution and accountability process formed by the CAC. For a detailed explanation of the process follow this link.

There will be more to come as we continue having assemblies.
